Volunteering - How Can You Help?

Almost everybody working on "Newstead" is a volunteer, giving up their free time to help restore this engine. If you have an interest in steam locomotives and engineering, or have always wanted to get involved with steam locomotives, why not join our team? Being involved with an overhaul and restoration like this one is the perfect opportunity to learn more about how these magnificent engines work, and an excellent starting point if you want to move into other areas of Railway operations. We're a friendly team, with a wide age-range, currently working a mix of Wednesdays, Saturdays and Sundays. Many of us have come without any previous experience - just enthusiasm, patience and an eagerness to learn.

And when "Newstead" is completed, those who have done the work will be the first to have a chance to play with her.

With more help, we can complete the overhaul much sooner. Drop us an email to find out more.

Please note - for insurance reasons, any active volunteer will need to become a member of the Spa Valley Railway's volunteer society and undergo a basic induction; for more information, please visit the Spa Valley Railway website .
